Summary and decision
Distinguish willingness, confidence and verified operational capacity.
Decision: Agree the support actions and evidence required before mobilisation.
Preparation
- Ask privately what makes implementation worthwhile and what could prevent it.
- Bring workload, staffing, training and dependency evidence.
Audience
6-12 people per comparable group, followed by a cross-functional review.

Exercises A and B
Exercise A: Readiness conversation
- Discuss shared commitment and confidence separately.
- Use original questions: Is this change worthwhile? Can we organise the work it requires?
- Record disagreement and missing voices instead of averaging them away.
Exercise B: Capacity and support review
- Check time, staffing, skills, tools and manager support with evidence.
- Separate a perception gap from a confirmed resource gap.
- Assign support, redesign or further investigation to each gap.
Worksheets
Worksheet A
- Value and commitment
- Confidence and reasons
- Differences between groups
- Questions still unanswered
Worksheet B
- Task and needed capacity
- Available evidence
- Gap and response
- Owner, date and verification
Illustrative example
Illustrative, not a real case
- Illustrative: a team supports the move but cannot attend training during a service peak.
- The response is protected time and cover, not another persuasion campaign.
- The review checks attendance access and task demonstration separately.
Completion criteria
- Commitment and confidence remain separate findings.
- Resource gaps have accountable owners.
- No composite readiness percentage is presented.
Follow-up
- Repeat selected questions after support actions.
- Use findings in W13 readiness gate.
Points of attention
- These discussion questions are not a validated survey or ORIC translation.
- Protect privacy when reporting small groups and free-text concerns.
Workplace phase and change activities
Workplace: Diagnose (phase in the Workplace method)
Change Management
- Diagnose
Why this workshop helps: Separates willingness, implementation confidence and verified capacity.
Adapting outside a workplace setting: Replace the move example with your own change; keep the distinction between the concepts.
- Prepare
Why this workshop helps: Agrees support actions and the evidence required before mobilisation.
Adapting outside a workplace setting: Check capacity against the actual workload of your change, such as peak periods or system migrations.

Sources
Weiner (2009). A theory of organizational readiness for change
Why here: Informs the distinction between shared commitment and confidence in collective capability. It is a theory, not evidence that this workshop works.
- Finding:
- Shared commitment and confidence in collective capability are distinct aspects of readiness.
- Limitation for workplace:
- A conceptual theory, developed for collective implementation. A workshop conversation is not a validated readiness measure.
Shea et al. (2014). Organizational readiness for implementing change: a psychometric assessment
Why here: Shows how collective commitment and efficacy can be measured psychometrically. The workshop questions are not the ORIC questionnaire and produce no validated score or norm.
- Finding:
- ORIC provides psychometric work on measuring collective commitment and efficacy.
- Limitation for workplace:
- Our short discussion questions are not ORIC. Formal use requires the original instrument and assessment of language and setting.
