What the field covers
Change management is about how an organisation moves from a current to an intended way of working. It is not only communication or building support. It covers understanding what actually changes, for whom, and which circumstances make the new way of working possible or difficult. It then covers shaping the change with the people who have to work with it, and embedding it in routines, policy and systems.
We treat resistance as possible information about the design, interests or circumstances, not as something to be removed.
Who it is for
For leaders and sponsors who want a change to land, for HR and People teams, for IT and project teams introducing new systems, for organisation consultants and for professionals in real estate, facility management and workplace design. Employees who help shape a change will also find concepts and formats here.
Viable, usable and sustainable
A new way of working is viable when the resources, time, roles and rules are in place to do it. It is usable when people can actually apply it in their daily work, with the knowledge and confidence that requires. It is sustainable when it lasts after the project's attention moves on. Readiness, confidence to carry it out, actual capacity, use and outcome are different things, and each needs its own question and its own way of looking.
Three levels of change
What a person does differently, what they need to know and be able to do, and whether the circumstances around them make the new behaviour possible.
Shared agreements, roles, routines and the way people coordinate. Many changes succeed or stall at this level, because the team is where daily work is organised.
Structure, policy, systems, leadership and governance. These set the conditions that individuals and teams work within, and they need to change along with the work.
Areas of application
A construction or relocation project is not a precondition. Change Management also applies when nothing about the space changes.
New roles, working-time arrangements, performance conversations or development programmes.
Introducing a system or tool so that people can and do use it in their actual work.
Mergers, new structures, shifted responsibilities or new ways of steering.
Changing how internal or external services are delivered and who does what.
New ways of working connected to a change in space, use of space or workplace policy.

In a workplace transformation both activities come together. The Workplace method connects space, ways of working and change across six phases, with workshops per phase.
Go to the Workplace methodIs the change not about space? Then the six phases are not a requirement. Start with the Change Management knowledge domain and the eight principles we work with.
